RSE and PSHE
At Bow Community Primary School, personal, social and health education (PSHE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) enables our children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society.
It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up.
We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society.
At Bow Community Primary School, we use SCARF, which covers the PSHE Association's Programmes of Study content for Key Stages 1 and 2.
DfE requirements for Relationships Education and Health Education (statutory from September 2020) don't cover all aspects of PSHE education.
SCARF covers both the DfE statutory requirements and the PSHE Association’s advisory content, which together ensure a comprehensive, spiral curriculum for PSHE education. SCARF's whole-school approach supports primary schools in promoting positive behaviour, mental health, wellbeing, resilience, and achievement. We believe that Personal Development lies at the cornerstone of our school curriculum and ethos.
We aim to prepare children for life in a modern world, developing and deepening their understanding of fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, rule of law, and mutual respect and tolerance. We believe we inspire all our children so they can leave our school confident and assured of their place in this diverse and changing world.
Through our SCARF curriculum we aim to develop skills and attitudes in our pupils that will enable them to participate fully and contribute positively whilst thriving in a modern world.
